Material Used – Bianco Eclipse Quartzite

The client’s wish was to create a showpiece for a large kitchen by introducing a very large central island with top and details to suit. Because of the size, it was necessary to select a material that would stand out without detracting from the overall colour scheme chosen for the room.

The neutral white of the cabinet work allowed some leeway in selection. Cawdor Stone Gallery supplied and installed Bianco Eclipse Quartzite worktops to the island and the countertop along one wall. Bianco Eclipse was chosen for the distinctive marking and the white-grey background to complement the cabinetry. It was also available in the large slab size required for the Island.

The very large size of the island required bold detailing and a bonded edge with ogee and half-bullnose edging was chosen. The edge thickness was achieved by bonding a narrow 3cm edge piece to the underside of the 3cm top giving the appearance of a strong 6cm thick top and thereby keeping the overall weight to a manageable level.

The Bianco Eclipse Quartzite is a natural material from Brazil that is harder than granite.
