Our Favourite Movie Kitchens4 min read

Watching our favourite movies on the big screen lets our imaginations run wild for home interior. Many people love to get their inspirations from movies, especially a Nancy Meyers movie. Nancy is well known for producing such beautiful kitchens in films.

Let’s look through the movie kitchens that are spectacular and have stolen our hearts.

The Holiday (2006)

Now, this film has certainly been one of our faves, especially at Christmas time. A great Nancy Meyers film where two girls from different countries swap their home for the holidays to get away from their relationship issues. However, their lives change unexpectedly when they meet two local men and fall in love.

It features Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet. Kate plays a character called Iris who has a cosy cottage in the English countryside named “Rosehill” Such an idyllic property in the middle of a stunning view in Surrey. It stole our hearts with the white stone walls, a tiny stove, powder-blue cabinets and a beautiful 18th-century fireplace. Diaz plays a character called Amanda who has a big contemporary, Mediterranean California style house in Pasadena, with all the modern mod cons. The generously large American kitchen offers lots of seating, storage, a big range cooker and dark cabinetry providing a modern twist to the contemporary style.

It’s Complicated (2009)

This is the perfect Nancy Meyers movie, with a great open-plan kitchen that is a true Californian dream. Meryl Streep owns this in the film, where it perfectly opens up to a dining room and has an airy effect.

Jane played by Meryl Streep is a divorcee who runs into her ex-husband (Alec Baldwin) at their son’s graduation ceremony. It sparked an ignition and they start to fall in love all over again.

The Help (2011)

The Help is a period drama film about a story of a white woman and an aspiring journalist Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan. The story focuses her relationship with two black maids during the Civil Rights Movement in 1963.

The kitchen is a farmhouse Mississippi style with a 1950s Southern style. Checkered vinyl floors, cherry red seating and a floral wallpaper brings this kitchen to life. A good old fashioned kitchen to bake a good old fashioned cake in!

Sex and The City (2008)

After moving in together in a breathtaking New York apartment, Carrie Bradshaw and Mr Big make a rather arbitrary decision to get married. The wedding goes from a small ceremony to a rather large one with Big developing cold feet when Miranda, Carrie’s friend is frustrated with her own husband and relates to him the reality of marriage.

A true girly film with Charlotte’s kitchen far from disappointing. Perfect pink confectionary, white clean crisp splashback, handmade cabinetry and solid stone worktops make up this gorgeous space. A huge Wolf Range Cooker sits in amongst the furniture and the stone countertops sit either side for great cooking space, with an island in the middle. We wouldn’t really expect anything less than a perfect pantry from Charlotte.

Mr and Mrs Smith (2005)

Mr and Mrs Smith is an action-comedy starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and a bored upper-middle class married who are surprised to learn that they are assassins belonging to competing agencies and that they have been assigned to kill each other. It is one of our faves!!

The kitchen in this film is the perfect place for the gun collection, a touch of drama and a glint of danger. Stainless steel elements fill the space with modern technology and lots of sophistication. The double oven reveals Mrs Smith’s stash of weaponry for a super twist.

Something’s Gotta Give (2003)

This American romantic comedy is again produced and directed by Nancy Meyers. A successful 60-something and 50-something find love for each other in later life, despite being complete opposites. They do say opposites do attract!

The stunning open-plan kitchen makes it the most googled and sought-after kitchen of all time, thanks to Nancy. This kitchen draws you to the film in so many different ways, with its contrast of colours and materials creating a cosy traditional retreat. It features a grand island in the middle with plenty of storage, while dark wooden floors work wonders against the cream cabinetry. Again, an enormous Wolf Range Cooker sits proudly in this hub of the home.

Love Actually (2003)

Love Actually is a British Christmas-themed romantic comedy featuring an ensemble cast. It is a great Christmas film diving into ten separate stories involving a wide variety of individuals, many of whom are shown to be interlinked as the tales progress.

Little Sam’s kitchen expresses a form of function. Clean lines from this kitchen with exposed shelving and stainless-steel elements to provide a modern style. Everything is packed away neatly for a minimalistic kitchen.
